What we're reading: Mosque in London becomes first in UK to accept cryptocurrency donations. First time buyers are paying double to get on the property ladder in London, compared to elsewhere. Is Crossrail a tube line? How one London warehouse is feeding 484,376 people for free. Things to do:

HIVE TO HONEY SHOWCASE: Get your paws on sticky and sweet goodness at Borough Market's urban bee and honey showcase. You'll learn how to create a buzz in your own back garden, with a grower's guide to making a bee-friendly environment and, if you're feeling brave, get up close to Bermondsey Street Bees' glass hive. Borough Market, free, just turn up, 10am-4pm

THE DABBLE SESSIONS: Dip your toe into something completely different with the help of First Direct's Dabble Sessions.  The Paper Dandy will show you the art of kirigami. Simply by folding and cutting a single sheet of A4 paper, you'll recreate the same 3D artwork that got JJ Abrahams on speed dial. The Shoreditch Platform, £10, book ahead, 11.30am-1pm

ST JAMES'S PARK STORIES: What secrets are waiting to be discovered in St James's Park? Find out how its gardens helped court a king's mistress and catch the resident pelican's daily feed on this guided walk. St James's Park, £10, book ahead, 1.15pm-2.45pm

FREE BEER: Head to what claims to be London's oldest Irish pub and be rewarded with a free bottle of limited edition craft beer. The Tipperary (Fleet Street), free, just turn up, 4pm-11pm

Free live jazz and poetry goes canalside at Word on the Water.

WORD ON THE WATER: Who wants to waste a rare summery London evening crammed into a pricey bar? Instead, make the most of the lingering daylight hours beside Regent's Canal, with a night of live jazz and spoken word hosted by poet and author Tom Cable. The London Bookbarge, Granary Square (King's Cross), free, just turn up, 6pm-10pm

THE GAZE: Tiptoe along the radical edge of cinema, as Freud Museum introduces you to the subversive potential of the gaze. Anna Freud Library (Hampstead), £11, book ahead, 7pm-9pm

ESTBEL: Two Estonian dreamers plus two Flemish  brothers equals folksy musical foursome, Estbel. They describe themselves as a walk with Bjork and Gabriel Garcia Marquez across a Nordic landscape, and though we're not quite sure what that means, it certainly sounds enticing. The Slaughtered Lamb (Clerkenwell), £11, book ahead, 7.30pm-10.30pm

ISTANBUL FEAST: Delight in the tastes of  Turkish springtime at a home-style Istanbul supper club. Treats include mackerel pilaki, three-spiced butter, and a traditional semolina pudding. E5 Bakehouse (London Fields), £35, book ahead, 7.30pm-10.30pm
